Senior Software Engineer
James is a Senior Software Engineer on InMotion Cloud's team, where he helps build and secure the platform behind InMotion Cloud. His work spans the full stack — the Angular customer portal, the NestJS, Laravel, and Go services underneath it, and the cloud infrastructure those services orchestrate. Most recently he's been the architect and lead behind InMotion Cloud's Cloud Backups system and its single sign-on identity provider, which is a fancy way of saying he spends a lot of time making sure your data is safe and that you only have to log in once.
He came to engineering the long way around. James started in web-hosting support, where his idea of a good time was writing Python scripts to make SSL certificates, cPanel migrations, and mail-log diving stop eating his afternoons. Those "day-job pain-killers" turned into a career: years of WordPress plugin and theme development (including W3 Total Cache and CDN performance work), a stint hardening applications against real-world attacks like XSS and SSRF, and eventually the cloud-platform and architecture work he does today. Along the way he's contributed to WordPress core and picked up an unreasonable fondness for good documentation.
When he writes for the InMotion Cloud blog and support library, it's from the keyboard of someone who has actually shipped the thing he's describing — whether that's cloud backups, server provisioning, WordPress performance, or wrangling a Kubernetes deployment at the end of a long day. He's based in Virginia, and yes, he helped build the very author-profile system you're reading this on.
