Joe Cartonia

Joe Cartonia is a Software Engineer and DevOps SRE at the Developer III level. His work centers on InMotion Cloud — building and operating cloud platform software, automation, and related DevOps/SRE — alongside W3 Total Cache, which he has worked on since 2020 (and as lead developer since about 2021), and BoldGrid’s plugins, themes, systems, and services.

A Buffalo native based in Virginia Beach, Joe has been with InMotion since 2009 and on BoldGrid WordPress products since 2014. That track record spans cloud automation and workloads such as WordPress on lightweight Kubernetes; WordPress performance and caching through W3 Total Cache; and shipping open-source plugins and themes such as Total Upkeep, Post and Page Builder, and BoldGrid Easy SEO, plus PHP and API backends and systems administration.

Joe came to Product Development from InMotion Hosting Managed Hosting Level III. Before that, he worked as an InMotion Hosting Tier 2 customer service representative. Along the way he worked on internal company projects and systems, and maintained some company internal systems and services, then moved into shipping plugins and themes to the WordPress.org directory. Outside of product work, he has been active in the Hampton Roads WordPress community as a meetup organizer and presenter.

When he writes for InMotion Cloud, it is from the perspective of an engineer who ships and operates the platform he describes — while staying hands-on with W3 Total Cache and BoldGrid. Away from the keyboard, he enjoys traveling, motorsports, snowboarding, guitar, and time at the beach.
